Expandable Polystyrene Flame Retardant EPS Beads are a functional polymer material modified by introducing environmentally friendly flame retardant additives into a polystyrene base. As an upgraded version of traditional expandable polystyrene (EPS), this material retains the core advantages of EPS, such as lightweight, thermal insulation, and shock absorption, while significantly improving fire safety performance through flame retardant modification. It can effectively suppress flame spread and achieve self-extinguishing, widely meeting the safety and environmental protection needs of the construction, packaging, and industrial sectors.

In terms of structure and performance, flame-retardant EPS beads have a closed-cell honeycomb structure internally, composed of approximately 98% air and 2% polystyrene base material. This structure gives them an extremely low thermal conductivity (typical value 0.028-0.031 W/(m·K)), resulting in durable and stable thermal insulation properties. Their flame-retardant properties are achieved by adding environmentally friendly flame retardants, with an oxygen index exceeding 30. Some high-end grades (such as HF grade) can meet the B1 flame retardant standard, and under 50 kW/m² heating conditions, the total heat release (THR) over 5 minutes, as tested by a cone calorimeter, can be controlled to below 0.9 MJ/m².
In terms of processing technology, flame-retardant EPS beads require three core steps: pre-expansion, curing, and molding. First, the beads are heated with steam (above 90℃) to vaporize and expand the blowing agent inside, increasing their volume to 40-75 times their original size; then, they are cured in a curing chamber to balance internal and external pressure (usually requiring 6-12 hours), enhancing the beads' elasticity and expandability; finally, the beads are heated in a mold (above 110℃) to melt and bond them together, forming various types of boards or customized products.
The application fields are extremely broad: in the construction sector, it is a core insulation material for new and existing building energy-saving renovations, and can be used for exterior wall and roof insulation, as well as a lightweight filler for roads, bridges, and tunnels; in the packaging sector, it is suitable for cushioning packaging of precision machinery, fruits, vegetables, and seafood, reducing transportation costs due to its lightweight properties; in the industrial and consumer goods sectors, it can be used to make water treatment filter materials, home gardening containers, and as filling material for household items such as beanbag chairs and cushions. It is also used in the molding and manufacturing of public facilities such as shopping mall seating and playground artificial rock formations.
